Summer in the Alps
A magical summer getaway for all
Whilst many people are drawn to the Alps for the array of snow sport activities in the winter, summer at La Ferme provides an arguably wider array of activities for all to enjoy. There are numerous walking paths accessible directly from the chalet - particular highlights include the short walk to the stream to cooldown in the hot summer heat, as well as the 20-30 minute walk into the village of St Jean d'Aulps for coffee, lunch or dinner.

Within the ski area Roc d'Enfer, there are further walking paths accessible either by taking the gondola, driving via Graydon, or by hiking up from the Terche. At the top of the Gondola, the restaurant at the Terchette is open everyday, and a short ride up the Télésiège des Têtes takes you to a spectacular viewing point, as well as the start of yet more walking routes. For those who prefer to descend the mountain via wheels, you can rent a mountain kart or scooter at the gondola, and kart down from the top of the Télésiège des Têtes back to the Terche - a thrilling and unique activity which every member of the family will enjoy. You can also explore the mountains via electric scooter, either by yourselves or via guided tours.

For all mountain bikers and e-Bikers, the Roc D'Enfer provides a variety of routes to choose from, catering for both beginner and advanced riders. In the wider area, the Portes du Soleil is a cyclist’s paradise, with 600 km of MTB, Enduro or downhill trails supported by 22 lifts, and of course, for road cyclists, Tour de France calibre “king of the mountain” road sections.

For a different adventure, why not try rock climbing or via feratta, with routes available for both beginners and experience climbers within the Roc d'Enfer, as well as in the wider Portes du Soleil area. Alternatively, try your hand at white water rafting on the river, or become a Spartan, by participating in one of the different length obstacle runs, held in Morzine. Competitive family members can also put their sporting skills to the test by participating in triathlons and cycle races.

La Terche also has a pétanque pitch - the French sport of outdoor boules is very popular with both visitors and the locals, with community events every Friday evening throughout the summer.

For cooling off, Lac Montriond is a 10 minute drive, and is a popular sport for swimming, paddle boarding and canoeing. Besides the main lac, there is a smaller, purpose built 'swimming lac', perfect for children. The Lac also provides scenic walks, with a particular highlight being the walk to the waterfall. When you get peckish, there are numerous restaurants around the lake, which also sell small refreshments and ice-creams, as well as BBQ pits and plenty of space for picnics.

A wider array of watersports activities are available on Lac Leman, which is a 40 minute drive away from La Ferme. Rent a boat from Sciez-sur-Leman and spend the day exploring the shores of France and Switzerland or learn how to wakeboard, waterski, windsurf or sail. Enjoy a day at the beach at Excenevez, where children will enjoy hiring a pedalo (with a slide!). Explore the historic town of Yvoire and enjoy a relaxed lunch with beautiful vistas of the lac.

For any keen golfers, tee-off in Avoriaz or Les Gets, or venture further afield, to the championship course at Evian Resort Golf Club, 40 minutes drive from La Ferme.

And for those that ride Harley's, the biennial Harley Davidson meet in occurs next in 2024. If 2022 was anything to go by, something to look forward to !
